Too much protein

Protein is one of the most important nutrients you could get in your diet. It is needed to feel full, have energy,build and repair muscles,boost immunity among other vital roles. But it is possible to get too much of it,especially on high protein diets. Too much protein is linked with kidney disease,digestion problems and cancer risk. Here are some signs that you are eating too much protein-

1. You are in a bad mood:

Maybe you got into a fight with your partner or you are anxious about problems at work. When we are eating too much protein and not balancing it out with the right amount of carbohydrates we are putting the body under stress, raising cortisol levels. It is important to consume complex carbohydrates like fruits,oatmeal,sweet potatoes,whole grains.

2. You have got a brain fog:

Feeling fatigued as the day rolls on might indicate too much protein. This is because of a sugar deficit causing brain activity to shrink. Without carbohydrates it becomes harder to concentrate.

3. You are gaining weight:

This might happen with excess consumption of protein shakes, animal meat. The diet must be balanced out with whole grains,fruits,vegetables. Half your plate should be fruits/vegetables, one quarter must be protein and another quarter must be whole grains.

4. You are very thirsty:

This is due to mild dehydration caused by your kidneys working overtime to remove excess protein as well as the nitrogen waste from metabolizing the protein. So you urinate too much and wreck your kidneys. This could also lead to kidney stones. It is of utmost importance to consume suffecient water.

5. You have bad breath:

This is also when you do not balance out your protein intake with suffecient carbohydrates.

6. Digestion problems:

If your protein is not balanced out with fibre from whole grains and vegetables it leads to digestion problems. A minimum of 25 grams of fibre must be consumed from whole grains,vegetables and fruits. Probiotics like curd, yogurt also keep your digestion on track.
